Fuck You, Vista
So... Just in case any of you ever needed to know this information, Windows Vista doesn't let you use multiple video cards unless all of the video cards use the same driver. That means if you've got a sexy ATI card as your primary and you want to toss in a cheap nVidia to power tertiary monitors, you can't do it. You have to get another expensive ATI card that will use the exact same drivers. Pain in my fucking ass.

Of course this worked fine in XP, and in fact you can use the XP drivers in Vista and it'll work, but then you can't use the fancy Aero affects that Vista gives you. That's bullocks.

Of course Windows 7 will support it, but I don't think I'm going to wait around for another year and a half or more to get my third monitor up and running at work.

So my ATI x1300 video card that matches the one already in my machine is on the way from Amazon. Of course my current card is AGP and the new one is PCI and they're different manufacturers, but everything I've read says that they should still use the same drivers and this should work fine. But in my opinion, it should have fucking worked fine with the GeForce 5200 I picked up at Best Buy.

I just got a new laptop with Vista. I'm 2 minutes away from ditching Vista and installing XP!

This is actually the FIRST problem I've actually encountered with Vista. I know everyone and their mother complains about it, but up until this point, it's worked great for me. This just really pissed me off because I've spent a whole day of my life trying to figure out why the hell I couldn't get a second video card working. But I've been running it on my laptop for a year (came pre-installed) and on my work machine for about a month and it's been fine.

What sort of problems are you running into?

From its inception, I think the friends who have it have run into nothing but problems with it. You can't use older versions of Photoshop with it, it fucks up certain games (Meghan's shiny new laptop is forcibly confined to Photoshop Elements, and god knows how many customers at Best Buy complain about not being able to play their humble little games of Scrabble from the bargain software), and now video card problems? X_x I'd just as soon turn to MAC OS, but then again, I was raised Mac, so that doesn't really count for much of anything.

I was wondering what you were lookin' at video cards for. |3

I use Vista, and everything crashes. FFXI crashes, Steam crashes, Winamp and iTunes crash, Firefox crashes, just about everything crashes. I've had my display drivers crash while programs were crashing. I've seen fewer crashes in The Blues Brothers.

I've never had any sort of crashing problems with it. But up until this point, the only machine I ran it on was my laptop, which came pre-installed, so I guess they made sure that everything they put in there was 100% Vista-happy. This video card issue came up in my work computer, which was XP up until a month ago. So far this is the only major problem I've run into... we'll see if it's the last.
