Side Project To-Do List
On the way to work today, I came up with what I feel is a brilliant way to leverage my development skills and knowledge of comic books beyond what I've already done with comicbooklist.com. But I've already got a bunch of side projects that are near-completion that I've been slacking on lately. So I've decided that I need to finish all of those before I'm allowed to continue with my new idea. So here they are in the order that I'm going to do them:
  1. Finish my current todo list for richardmatthews.org.
  2. Write an installer for WINGS.
  3. Get InfiniteCOW back up and running to the point it was at before the final release of Microsoft's AJAX framework broke the whole thing.
  4. Do anything else that needs doing for richardmatthews.org that might have come up since finishing the current todo list.
  5. Get the data for the current comicbooklist.com up-to-date (I'm probably six months behind).
If I buckle down, I should really be able to knock all that out in a month. I think the only one that's really going to be difficult is writing the installer for WINGS. I've never written an installer before. I'm pretty sure that Visual Studio comes with some installer packages, so it should just come down to figuring out how that works and making it happen.

Once all of that is done, then I can start working on comicbooklist.com 2.0. I'm also not allowed to start a new video game until I finish at least the first three items on this list (but I can play ones I've already started). Fortunately, Pie has picked up several new games recently, so hopefully I can get my fix by watching her while I work. That also means that I need to find a comfortable working setup for the living room with my laptop. One of the reasons I've been slacking on my side projects lately is that I don't really like hanging out in the office for long periods of time, especially if Pie isn't in there too. I definitely prefer having multiple monitors for any serious dev work, but I think a comfortable environment is more important to me than screen convenience.

Once I do get started on this brilliant new idea, I'll be recruiting any of you who have a knowledge of any particular comic book characters or story lines for your brain power.

What a busy boy you are! I'm glad you're going to give Infinite Cow another shot. It is such a great idea. :) I'll try to keep you as motivated as possible. And please tell me your comic book idea.

I'll try to keep you as entertained as possible with Ratchet & Clank. I still haven't tried MySims yet. But it's calling to me, it really is.

Actually, it's such a good idea that AOL totally and completely stole it. They also added the ability to write prequels, which mine doesn't allow you to do. But fuck it, I think my interface was way better and more fun to use, so I'm still going to get it back up and running. :p

Thanks! Glad you like it!

Hopefully with this complete revamp I'm planning, it'll actually feel nicer to use and be more useful to more readers.

I didn't know you were a comic-reader though. You suuuuuuure you haven't seen my copy of 52: The Companion? :p

haha I know you didn't. I'm sure I just left it in the men's room or something and it ended up in the trash overnight. I'll survive. I can just order a new one.

I haven't kept up with a lot of recent comics, other than reading about them Wizard every once in a while. John, Pete's brother, gave a couple of Ultimates trade paperbacks and I'm hooked on them. He told that the new Captain America stories are surprisingly good.

I'm still a little hesitant to pick up anything current from Marvel. I didn't like the "Civil War" and I HATE what they did with Spider-Man's marriage. This especially hurts because I thought of myself as slightly more of a fan of Marvel than of DC, but I enjoy a lot of the mainstream DC stuff, too. Usually I've been being the Marvel Essentials and I'll probably buy some of the DC reprint books (I forgot what they are called). The last that I bought was the Essential Tomb of Dracula Vol. 2. I might pick up Essentials for Dr. Strange and there was a Shazam reprint book that I was thinking of getting.
